Orosi - a town of many faces

Can you believe, I was up at 6am making my banana sandwiches and freezing them. The lady from the pizzeria thought Mass was at 9am or maybe 10am. This is my first Sunday to try and go - don't tell Father Jerry or I will be in big trouble. I arrived about ten to nine and since there was no evidence of anything happening, I figured it must be ten. The only activity was on the soccer field in the city square in front of the church. Boy do they ring bells to remind people or get them moving. 9:30 and 9:45 and 10:00. There are two bells and first they are rung separately and then together. As I have mentioned, this is the oldest operating Catholic Church in Costa Rica, but you wouldn't know that from the music. It was lively as can be with 2 male singers and an electronic keyboard and some kind of mixer for all the other instruments. It made up for the fact that I didn't understand much. They stand lots more than we do in the states and only kneel at the consecration. Standing is a problem for me so I did some extra sitting. As far as the homily, I know he talked about prophets and mama and papa and it was question and answer from the congregation but that is about it.
I did get the Lord's Prayer and the sign of peace so I figure I am coming along.
I come out the door at the end and look around and you would think I was in Sturgis, SD, not Orosi, Costa Rica. It is just a kick. Besides all the motorcycles there are bikes tearing down the streets, especially the ones with hills.
I hit another grocery store on my way home and now have brown sugar that I think will clump and some spray cleaner that if I read it right chases away insects and a little bottle of bleach so I can disinfect things.
I haven't gotten any money since early in June so I think tomorrow means a trip to Cartago with hopefully a stop at WalMart for the cocoa and chocolate chips and oatmeal. Everything I saw today was quick, not regular.
Here are some pictures from today. The poor goalkeeper with the big puddle right in front of him.
