And now I am back on my front porch and changed into shorts and as soon as I put together some food, I may just stay here the rest of the day. Before I went to the senior center I took the plate with a bunch of lemon bars to Tia's house. I headed out about 9:50am but when I got close to the bridge they said no, I would have to go the other way. The long way. By the restaurant by the gas station then down the hill and down the street to the senior center. Mass was still going on so I sat outside and crocheted. Three men joined me but I understood little of what they were asking me. I guess if I am going to flirt I really need to learn Spanish. Janet came and asked for another crochet hook because she lost the one I gave her at the party. I had to explain I didn't have anymore so she said she will get one and checked the size of mine. I went inside and greeted all my muchachos and muchachas. Janet had put together a group of helpers for each table and first I showed them how to do it and then we handed out all the ribbons and ties. They loved the ribbons and whether they made the bows or we did, they loved having the bow to take home. I had brought my kitchen sissors along to cut the tails because of the wire and I made sure everyone's was cut. There was some variety in finished products but everyone ended up with a pretty bow. I had made 35 kits and I think I have 2 left. Before I left I made a 2 ribbon bow to put up at the center. They all thanked me. One little lady, whose bow I made, couldn't believe it was for her and she could keep it and asked that I take a picture of the two of us. It was very warm so I have rosy cheeks. Janet said there were lots of mosquitos so they had to keep the door by the kitchen closed.
I just love how much fun they had. By the time I left they were allowing people over the walking bridge. Everything is new and it will be really great when it is finished. There is even a concrete sidewalk most of the way to the street. Dirt road but concrete sidewalk!
Ana brought me a new fruit - I think it is a fruit - this morning. She said it is manzana de agua. To me that translates to water apple. I have included a picture. I haven't tried them yet but apparently they grow here. It is the first time I have seen them. Something new everyday. No corn or peas yet though. I am going to have to ask my North Dakota farmer, Andy, how long it takes. Gerardo has brought lots of bananas from his finca besides all the ones on the trees here. He shares with all the family. They use them still green but I wait till they turn yellow. I gave Otto some yesterday.
I have several butterflies who spend a lot of time in my one planter. They really like the flowers there. The ones that come the most are black with orange spots. Really pretty.
Manzana de agua
So proud of their bows.
I took a piece from one of the other planters. I have been told it blooms only 1 day a year.
My hortensia is doing really well. Some of it is even growing quite tall.
The lady who wanted our picture taken together.
