Let me tell you, when you want to communicate, language doesn't matter.

The 4 ladies just left at 5:45pm and they are coming back next Tuesday. They each managed to finish a hat and took yarn and a crochet hook to work on their next hat during the week. One lady only had a small hook so her hat had tons more stitches but we made if work. I  sewed the fabric into scarves while they crocheted. Now, to give them credit, they knew how to crochet, some better than others. They just needed instructions on how to make the hats. And, they speak almost no English. You know what my Spanish is like so we had an interesting afternoon. There were 2 crochet hook casualties. They are forceful crocheters. I mentioned I can't do the little hooks and I tried to help the lady with the little hook but I ended up having to get my yarn and hook and show her with that. Yarn and little hooks is definitely not a good combination for me.
Even with two languages, they asked me questions about myself and my family and we even talked about who had spouses and who didn't and who had a bad spouse. It was so fun.
We sat out on the porch although when the sun came out they moved to the inside wall to get away from it. I had made muffins so Janet could try them. It is an easy basic recipe and then you add whatever you want. I made 6 with strawberries and 6 with chocolate chips. I sent 4 over to Tia's house. I also had some glaze made up and explained without glaze they were muffins and with glaze they were cupcakes.
Tomorrow afternoon is sewing class and I will make another batch of muffins for coffee as I have more strawberries. I wish I could say I am having as much luck with sewing class as I am with hat making class. It's a good thing I will be bringing more yarn back with me in October - and more crochet hooks. Heather has some to give me and I ordered a bunch that is waiting for me at her house.  I know the ladies are happy we are making hats for the ladies here in Orosi who need them. I gave Janet the hat for the senior's daughter that I said I would make when I was at the senior center. When I pick up the two I forgot at Ziomara's I will give them to Gerardo for the local ladies he mentioned.
I am happy I can help in this way.

My last two hats.
