I headed for Cartago late this morning. I figured I would get the cans of artichokes and maybe stop at the market and see Ziomara. I got the artichoke hearts and stopped at McDonalds for a wrap and a Sundae. I only ate half the wrap and fries so I could eat the sundae so I figured I would take the rest to Ziomara in case she hadn't had lunch. Turned out she wasn't working today so I headed for the market. I went to the stand I usually go to and got a bunch of strawberries for white chocolate strawberry muffins. Next stop was the bakery and then the bus home. As I got close to the nursery my hand just reached out and hit the button. I figured since he stopped I had to get off. Traffic even let up so I could cross the street. The guys let me leave my heavy red bag - a water bottle and 4 cans of artichoke hearts and a big bag of strawberries besides everything else I normally carry - on the table and I started checking out all the flowers. I gathered a bunch and had one of the guys come get them. I explained I needed a taxi to Orosi and the cashier took care of calling someone. It didn't take long and he was there and away we went. When we get by the pizza shop I point to turn left and the next corner I point to turn right and tell him the white. It works out just fine. We timed it great because as soon as I sat down on the porch it started raining like mad.
I have figured out why there are so many bakeries. People here eat bread a couple times a day - usually not with a meal and most of them do not have ovens so they don't bake it themselves. There is tons of French bread for sale. Sandwiches aren't the norm. People go to the bakery pretty much everyday so it is always fresh. I just like trying all the different goodies they offer.
I did find out last weekend that Mother's Day lunch at Ziomara's will be next Sunday. She will pick me up at the normal spot in front of the church near the bus stop at noon. I haven't decided yet what I will bring. They are planning a barbecue.
Only the 2 in front are mine, not the two on the right.
