Hey kids, I'm back!

It is so good to be feeling better and have some energy again. Although I have some things like high blood pressure and diabetes, I am basically healthy and make a very poor patient. I have been watched very closely the last 2 weeks and I think I have them all convinced now that I am better. I know diabetics heal very slowly but my forehead is doing great. I don't know if it is the cream the doctor gave me or the miracle cream Gerardo gave me or the cocoa butter oil or a combination of everything. And, my hair is getting long enough to cover up the little that is left.
It's been 4 days since I wrote anything so let's see if I can remember. Thursday I went to the craft ladies in Paraiso and took Banana Hazelnut bread. There were quite a few ladies there and Rosa had Emilio's cousin with her. I had met him at their house. He is 4 and cute as can be. He remembered me and seemed to like me. He was either at my side or watching me. I was making a dream catcher and I told him I would give it to him when I finish it. Friday was a stay home day and I made Chocolate Crinkle cookies so I would have something to give away besides the candy. I did make a trip around town and gave out cookies. I also made a crock pot of beef, potatoes and carrots that turned out really good. I have had trouble with the beef here but the guys in the meat market at the Chinese super are really great and they cut a piece just for me.
I have made a couple trips to the pharmacy and received a couple calls. Seems the test strips I use are no longer available in Costa Rica. The pharmacy here told me the company will replace my meter for free but it would take 2-3 weeks. I didn't want to wait that long to be able to test my blood sugar so I said I would make other arrangements.
Saturday I started out at the feria in Paraiso for my empanada fix. I do love them. In fact I got 2 - a potato and a chicken along with coffee con leche. I went to a bench outside and thoroughly enjoyed 1 1/2. I had not had breakfast and it really hit the spot. I went back in, to the plant stand and bought 2 plants. I have 5 to plant now. My flower garden has tons in bloom and I picked some tomatoes from the pot. I gave a couple to Tia when she came to visit yesterday. I didn't buy any fruit or vegetables as I didn't want to have to carry them all over Cartago. Emilio wasn't feeling well so he didn't come to meet me.
From the feria I took the bus to Cartago and got off at the Basicila. I knew the place I was looking for - Fischel's was on the street in front of the Basicila, I just didn't know how many blocks. With a little help I found it and the doctor spoke enough English we were able to get everything taken care of. She agreed it would take a week or two for a new meter so what I did was buy one they had in stock and gave her mine to get a replacement. That way I will have a back up. I bought two boxes of strips so I am all set. I told them I am the Orosi Cookie Lady and gave them all cookies. I left and got a block away and realized I couldn't find my big sunglasses. I went back and asked and they pointed to my hat. I have been wearing one to protect my forehead from the sun and I absolutely shouldn't put my sunglasses up on the hat because then I forget. We all laughed and off I went again. Ziomara wasn't working so I headed back. I was so tempted to stop at the nursery but I decided it would wait till I get back in July.
When I got back I started gathering guayaba and I found enough for a batch of jelly. During the week they use them for drinks for the kids but it was the weekend and no one had picked them. I ended up with 8 1/2 jars of jelly. I was a bit concerned because I used up every bit of sugar in the house and it was less than I usually use but it turned out really good. Even Gerardo gave his seal of approval this morning. I plan on having a checked bag since I am on Southwest and it doesn't cost so I will bring them back as gifts.
I was invited to Dora's house at 3:00pm but I wasn't sure if something besides coffee was going on. I put a dozen cookies in a container and decided to make refrigerator pickles as I know they like them. I had to explain they weren't for today, that they couldn't eat them until Wednesday. I also put together a kit so I could show them how to make them. Well, it turned out to be a prayer service, a very intense one. There must have been 40 people there, all family except me. With Sylvia's help I figured out it was for the young nephew who had been in a serious motorcycle accident a few months back. Part was to thank God he made it through. Part was to ask God's help because he is having a serious operation tomorrow. After the prayer service breads and beverages and then chicken rice and chips were served. I left a little after 5:00pm so there may have been desserts. I worked out with Dora that I will come back tomorrow at 3:00pm for the pickle making lesson. It was just too busy a time to think about it today.
So my week is Monday pickle making lesson and find Janet to let her know Tuesday's sewing lesson and Friday's senior craft are back on, Thursday will be a massage and craft ladies and we will see if Wednesday is an outing with Emilio and his new friend, Brittney. A busy week and I am happy to be able to do it.

The dream catcher I made.

See, I am all better.
